Members from the East Midlands region and beyond met at the Lime Trees Hotel in Northampton on Saturday 14th February for, appropriately, a Valentine Dinner Dance. Old friends reunited and new friendships were made during pre-dinner drinks. There was a good mix of singles and couples of all ages and for around one third of attendees it was their first Mensa social event. The hotel was excellent providing candles and red carnations on the tables to suit the occasion and serving individual heart shaped truffles with the coffee. I had supplied loveheart sweets and pink heart-shaped scatter for the tables which ended up on the dancefloor, down the corridors and in bedrooms! The meal was excellent with interestingly arranged melon and pineapple and huge chicken portions. The disco was very good playing all our requests at a volume level which was loud enough for the dancers yet not too loud for those who wanted to chat. Many diners took advantage of the discounted room rate and stayed at the Lime Trees Hotel. Thanks to Northampton LocSec, Ian Sargent, for setting the treasure hunt which tested our brain cells the following morning and for finding a nice location for our farewell Sunday lunch.
