Although there was a lack of local support for our Indian themed event in Leicester on Saturday 23rd February, those that travelled from further afield had a good time.
The Indian dance lesson started a little late due to the teacher's sat nav letting her down, but this was not really a problem as some of the dances were quite fast and energetic so I don't think we would have managed to dance for 2 1/2 hours! We started learning some simple traditional dances involving lots of clapping and moving in circles. There was then a break whilst Smita, the dance teacher, displayed different styles of Indian dress and jewellery and some of the ladies got chance to try them on. The class continued with Bollywood dancing and we were told the meaning of all the moves and that each dance tells a love story. I had expected a 'mens creche' to form in the bar but was pleasantly surprised to see so many males join in the dancing.
After all this activity it was nice to sit and watch a demonstration of Indian head massage. Very relaxing, especially for those who opted to have a mini-treatment afterwards. The smells of the massage oils mingled with the smells of our evening meal being prepared in the nearby kitchen. The curry buffet was delicious and authentic with onion bhajis, poppadoms, a selection of meat and vegetarian curries, rice, naan bread and salad. But we were able to burn off some calories at the disco afterwards!
